BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University thrower
Jessica Polkinghorn has been selected as the 2025 GNAC Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year.
Polkinghorn, a freshman from White Salmon and product of Columbia High School, had a standout collegiate debut during the indoor season winning the GNAC title in the shot put. Polkinghorn set WWU's indoor record in the shot put with a throw of 14.09m/46-2.75m at the GNAC Championships to rank No. 10 in conference history. Her mark was in the top 25 in the nation for D2 just missing a spot at the indoor championships. She was selected as All-West Region by the USTFCCCA with the No. 2 mark in the West Region.
Polkinghorn is the second woman from WWU in GNAC history to win the top freshman award, joining 2023 winner
Meaera Nystrom.
