BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University quarterback Steve Nichols has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 20-26 as he threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-7 win over Humboldt State.
Nichols, a sophomore from Stevenson, completed 18 of 28 passes in his first collegiate start. He also ran four times for 18 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown run. His touchdown passes were 13 yards to Greg Dykstra and 4 yards to Adam Snel.
In five games this season, Nichols has passed for 647 yards and six touchdowns, completing 45 of 69 passes (65.2 percent) with no interceptions.
Western (5-2), which has won its last seven home games, hosts University of New Haven CT on Saturday (1 p.m.) at Bellingham's Civic Stadium.
