BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University running back Duncan Sherrard has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 29-Oct. 5 for his part in the Vikings' 62-13 win over Western New Mexico University. He also received d2football.com national Offensive Player of the Week honorable mention.
Sherrard, a redshirt freshman from Seattle (Roosevelt High graduate), ran for 152 yards, the second highest total this fall by a GNAC player, including 112 in the third quarter, to key a 45-point second half for Western.
Sherrard scored 14 points in the third quarter on runs of 16 and 26 yards along with a two-point conversion, then added six more points in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard run.
Sherrard leads Western in rushing with 295 yards (5.6 apc) and four touchdowns. He also has caught five passes for 49 yards and has returned four kickoffs an average of 19.0 yards.
Western, 4-0, travels to South Dakota State University for a big interregional contest Saturday (5 p.m. PT) at Brookings, SD.
