BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University defensive tackle Lino Fenumiai (pronounced LEE-no Fay-KNEW-me-I) has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference football Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 1-7.
Fenumiai, a sophomore from Juneau, Alaska (Juneau-Douglas High School), making his first career start, had seven tackles, including three for losses (one quarterback sack for minus-8 yards), in Western's season-opening 24-16 triumph at University of Central Oklahoma.
Fenumiai's output matched his totals for his entire freshman season of 2001, when he had seven tackles in nine games.
Western, ranked No.24 in last week's American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II Top 25, hosts Fort Lewis College, Colo., on Saturday at 6 p.m.
