BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Cornerback Wes Rainwater (Fr., Renton/Kentridge), a transfer from Washington State University, has enrolled in classes at Western Washington University and is practicing with the Viking football team, head coach Rob Smith announced today.
Rainwater, a 2002 graduate of Kentridge High School, spent part of the 2002-03 academic year at Washington State, participating in spring football drills.
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Rainwater was a first-team Washington Prep Football Report all-state choice as a senior at Kentridge. He also was a red chip in the Seattle Times Top 100 list of high school seniors, the No.15 prospect in the Northwest by Super Prep Magazine and an honorable mention Northwest Nugget by the Tacoma News Tribune.
Rainwater had 1,224 all-purpose yards that season, rushing for 850 of them, scoring eight touchdowns and making four interceptions. Among his touchdowns were a school-record 96-yard kickoff return and a 71-yard punt return.
Rainwater was a first-team all-Area pick by both the TNT and South County Journal. The South Puget Sound League Special Teams Player of the Year, he earned first-team all-SPSL North Division honors as a running back and second team as a defensive back.
Rainwater helped Kentridge to a 9-2 record, a league co-championship and the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs. He scored twice in the first six minutes of the playoff game.
