BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University middle linebacker Craig Keenan has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for Aug. 29-Sept. 4. Keenan, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior from Salem, Mass. (Bridgton Academy Prep), had 12 tackles, including six primaries, and also came up with a key fourth-quarter fumble recovery to stop a drive at the Viking 29 in Western's 27-25 season and home-opening victory over Fort Lewis CO. Keenan is a transfer from Palomar (Calif.) Junior College where he was a first-team all-Mission Conference pick as a sophomore. As a freshman, he attended Ohio Wesleyan University, starting at strong safety. Keenan shared the weekly honor with Central Washington University linebacker Blake Walker, who had two pass interceptions in the Wildcats' 34-17 victory over Montana-Western. Western makes its longest road trip of the season this week, meeting St. Cloud State University (2-0) on Saturday (6 p.m. CT) at St. Cloud, Minn.
