BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Two Western Washington University football players received Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for Oct. 9-15. Inside linebacker Brandon Elliott claimed the defensive honor and running back Duncan Sherrard shared the offensive award.
Elliott, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound sophomore from Auburn (Fife High School graduate), came off the bench to make 11 tackles, including eight unassisted, as the Vikings won 38-16 at Western Oregon. Among his tackles was a six-yard quarterback sack that stalled a Wolf drive near midfield.
Sherrard, a 5-9, 200-pound senior from Seattle (Roosevelt High School graduate), ran for 158 yards on 25 carries, including 101 on 15 first-half attempts. Hindered by a knee injury most of the season, he now ranks second in GNAC history in career rushing with 2,560 yards.
Sherrard shared the honor with Central Washington quarterback Mike Reilly.
Western (3-4 overall, 2-1 league) is at Humboldt State on Saturday (6 p.m.) for a GNAC counter.
