Western loses 4-1 to Cal State San Bernardino

Oct. 21, 2005

Box Score

PHOENIX, AZ - Cal State San Bernardino scored three unanswered goals over a 12-minute span midway through the second half as it defeated Western Washington University, 4-1, in a non-conference men's soccer game Friday at the Grand Canyon University Soccer Complex.

The Vikings, who fell to 2-14-1, tied the game at 1-1 in the 59th minute as Jacob Haddock (Jr., Burlington/Burlington-Edison) scored on a free kick.

But CSUSB, which improved to 7-8-1, regained the lead just four minutes later on an unassisted goal by Daniel Rodriguez. The Coyotes' David McConnell then scored in the 66th minute and James Pusey found the net in the 74th minute.

Brent Vander Eyk assisted on McConnell's goal. Vander Eyk scored the first CSUSB goal in the 52nd minute, Oscar Garcia getting the assist.

"Haddock scored a nice goal to even the score," said Western coach Travis Connell. "But we needed to get more energy and weren't able to, and they were able to put a lot a pressure on us and score a lot of goals."

CSUSB had a 14-7 shot advantage and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Western goalkeeper Ben Dragavon (Sr., Monroe), who played 70 minutes, had eight saves.

The Vikings meet Grand Canyon University on Sunday (4 p.m.).
