BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University football running back Jake Carlyle has been named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
Carlyle ran for a career-high and GNAC season-best 175 yards on 31 carries in helping the Vikings control the ball for 37 minutes, 17 seconds, including the final 7:06 in a 21-16 victory over Humboldt State.
A senior from Olympia, Carlyle has run for 1,276 yards during his four-year career. His 175-yard total was the most by a GNAC running back since Central Washington's Emilio Iniquez ran from 177 against Western Oregon on Oct. 16, 2004.
Western meets arch-rival Central in the third annual Wells Fargo Battle in Seattle presented by Comcast on Saturday (6 p.m.) at Qwest Field.
