ARCATA, Calif. - Western Washington University extended its season-high win streak to five matches with a 3-1 victory over Humboldt State University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball contest Saturday at West Gym.
Western, ranked No.7 in this week's NCAA Division II Pacific Region rating, improved to 11-6 overall and 7-2 in the GNAC. Humboldt State, which was led by the match-high 17 kills of Katie Norkunas, fell 7-10 overall and 3-6 in league action.
"We started off a bit sluggish and had a hard time coming out of it, but we were able to pull it out," said Western coach Diane Flick.
Three Vikings had double-digit kills, including outside hitter Jaime Anderson (So., Sea-Tac/Mount Rainier), who paced Western with 14. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Tiana Roma (Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway) had 12 kills and outside hitter Siri Wuotila (So., Seattle/Highline) had 11 to go along with 22 digs.
Right-side hitter Sarah Primrose (Fr., Issaquah) and middle blocker Lindsey Signer (So., Stanwood) each had nine kills for the Vikings, and libero Courtney Schneider (So., Snohomish) had a match-best 33 digs. Western recorded seven service aces, including three by Katie Robinson (So., Everson/Nooksack Valley)
The Vikings are at Central Washington University on Saturday, Oct. 15 (7 p.m.) for a GNAC counter.
