BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University free safety Todd McClellan was a second-team pick on the Daktronics Northwest Region All-Star Football Team announced today.
McClellan, a senior from Timberline High School in Lacey, led the North Central Conference in pass interceptions with six, having at least one in each of the Vikings' last three games. Both those accomplishments were the best by a Western player since 1995.
McClellan's season total of 66 tackles ranked second on the team, and he also had three forced fumbles and three passes defensed.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound McClellan was twice named NCC co-defensive Player of the Week. He had two pass interceptions in the Vikings' 17-14 come-from-behind win over Western Oregon, one of them in the end zone following a long drive by the Wolves. He also had two pass thefts in Western's 10-6 victory over Augustana SD, one inside the Vikings' 10-yard line.
Western finished with a 5-6 record in its first season under head coach Robin Ross, ending the campaign with three straight wins. The Vikings tied for fifth place at 3-5 in their inaugural year in the NCC, regarded as one of the nation's top NCAA Division II football alignments.
