SEATTLE, Wash. - The University of Washington athletic department has named Roy Shick, a Northwest native and former fundraiser in the Arizona State athletic department, as assistant athletic director for major gifts.

Shick, a native of Sequim and a 1999 graduate of Western Washington University, will oversee all aspects of the department's major gifts program, focusing on capital projects, endowments and planning giving. He will report to Jennifer Cohen, who was promoted to senior associate athletic director for development last spring, and will also work closely with the Tyee Club and the department's annual giving efforts.

"Roy is a proven fundraiser with an excellent track record for success," said Jennifer Cohen, UW's senior associate athletic director for development. "He has a wide variety of experiences and has an obvious respect for the mission of the athletics program at the University of Washington. He has strong ties to the Northwest and has quickly established relationships with many of the UW's key constituents."

Shick has spent the last six years in a variety of fundraising capacities at Arizona State. He began his time at ASU in the department's ticket office for two years before moving into a position with the Sun Angel Foundation, the athletic development branch of the university. He served two years with the department's annual fund before moving into major gifts.

Upon receiving his undergraduate degree from WWU, where he also played football for the Vikings, Shick earned a master's degree in sports administration from the University Northern Colorado in 2001. He then spent a year as a marketing assistant in the athletic department at Fresno State before moving to Arizona State.

Shick and his wife, Dori, have two children - Averie and Bennett.
