TACOMA, Wash. - Western Washington University dominated the field events Saturday in taking the overall title at the University of Puget Sound Quadrangular meet, winning the women's division and tying for the men's crown, in its season opener at Baker Stadium on the UPS campus.

The Vikings finished with 127 points to 100-1/2 for the host and runner-up Loggers. The WWU women had 65 points with Lewis & Clark OR second at 5-1/2, and the Viking men tied with UPS, each having 62 points.

"The throws carried us, although we had good performances all the way through," said WWU coach Pee Wee Halsell.

WWU won five of seven women's field events and placed second in the other two. Bethany Drake (Fr., Sandy, OR) took the javelin with a mark of 138-6, over seven inches better than the NCAA Division II provisional national qualifying standard.
