BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University showed its versatility, using the big inning to win the opener and manufacturing runs to take the nightcap, in beginning Great Northwest Athletic Conference softball play with a doubleheader sweep of Simon Fraser University, 13-3 in five innings and 3-0, on Friday at Viking Field on the WWU campus.

WWU, which has won seven of its last eight games, improved to 10-3. SFU fell to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Vikings' Alexie Levin (So., Everett) (1-0) made her first extended pitching performance of the season in the second game, scattering four hits in six innings. She also had a three-run homer in the first game.

WWU took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap. Lynsey Amundson had a one-out infield single. Pinch runner Taylor Clark (Sr., Tacoma/Wilson) advanced to second on a groundout, to third on a passed ball and scored on a two-out single through the right side by Kaleigh Keating (Sr., Salinas, CA/Notre Dame Salinas).

The Vikings made it 2-0 in the fifth. Autumn Isaacson (Jr., Lake Stevens) walked, stole second and third, and came home on an infield hit by Levin.

Arianna Barrio (So., Stanwood/Lakewood) doubled home another run in the sixth.

Levin struck out two and walked two. Shayna Adelstein (Fr., Tucson, AZ/Marana Mountain View) earned a save with a three ground-out seventh.

WWU scored 11 runs on nine hits in the first inning of the opener. The big blows were a three-run double by Haylee Baker (Sr., Poulsbo/Bainbridge) and a three-run homer by Levin.

Emma Blauser (So., Federal Way/Todd Beamer) had an RBI double as the Vikings added two runs in the fourth.

WWU starting pitcher Jenna DeRosier (Sr., Kelso) (4-1) worked four innings to get the victory. Aspen Ison (Fr., Gig Harbor/Peninsula) gave up just a two-out single in pitching the final frame.

Simon Fraser scored all three of its runs in the fourth. Nicole Ratel had a two-run single for the Clan.

Isaacson, a transfer from Bellevue CC, has reached base in every game this season.
