BELLINGHAM, Wash. --- Outside hitter Rachel Roeder (Sr., Sammamish/Issaquah) had 11 kills and middle blocker Kayleigh Harper (R-Fr., Oak Harbor) added 10 as Western Washington University won its 14 straight match, defeating Western Oregon University, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball contest Saturday at Whatcom Community College Pavilion.
The Vikings, ranked No. 15 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 14-2 overall and lead the GNAC at 8-0. Western Oregon fell to 4-13 overall, 1-7 in conference play. Paige Kelsey led the Wolves with 10 kills.
The winning streak is the longest for WWU since opening the 2008 season with 14 consecutive triumphs.
The Vikings used a run of eight straight points to take a 13-5 lead in the opening frame. WOU closed to within one at 20-19 before WWU used five consecutive points to close out the set.
In the second set, the Wolves held a 15-13 lead, but the Vikings went on a 10-2 run that included three kills and a block by Harper to take control. In the final set, WWU led for good after breaking a 12-12 tie.
The Vikings visit nationally No.7-ranked Alaska Anchorage on Thursday (7 p.m. ADT).
