BELLINGHAM, Wash. --- Outside hitter Abby Phelps (R-Fr., Manson/Chelan) had a match-high 12 kills and just one attack error, helping Western Washington University win its 13th straight match, defeating Concordia, Ore., 25-17, 25-17, 25-14, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball contest Thursday at Whatcom Community College Pavilion.
The Vikings, ranked No. 15 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 13-2 overall and 7-0 in the GNAC. Concordia, which fell to 10-5 overall, 2-5 in conference play, was led by the 11 kills of Lindsay Dorsey.
Joellee Buckner (So., Colville) had eight kills and a match-high 13 digs for the Vikings, who never trailed in any set. The only tie in any set was at 10-10 in the second frame.
Western had five blocks in the match, with middle blocker Kayleigh Harper (R.-Fr., Oak Harbor) involved in all five. Right-side hitter Jennica McPherson (Sr., Seattle/Kennedy) added a match-high three service aces.
The 13-match winning streak is the longest since the Vikings opened the 2008 season with 14 consecutive triumphs. They get an opportunity to match that mark on Saturday (7 p.m.), hosting Western Oregon in a GNAC contest.
