SEATTLE, Wash. - Senior outside hitter Rachel Roeder recorded a team-high 13 kills and redshirt freshman outside hitter Abby Phelps notched a double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs to lead Western Washington to a three-set sweep (25-21, 25-18, 25-18) over Seattle Pacific Thursday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball match.
The Vikings (22-5 overall, 16-3 GNAC) remain in 2nd place in the GNAC, one game behind Alaska-Anchorage (plays tonight vs. Concordia). WWU checked in at No. 16 in the most recent AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25. Seattle Pacific falls to 7-20 overall, 5-14 in league play.
"Rachel and Abby really carried us tonight, despite both being under the weather," said head coach Diane Flick while celebrating her 44th birthday. "I was really pleased with how we executed our game plan and that we had a consistent, steady match."
Roeder (Sammamish, WA) led the Vikings with 13 kills, including 6 in the second set and 4 in the final set. She hit .500 (1 error, 24 attacks) and added a pair of blocks assists for 14.0 total points.
Phelps (Manson, WA/Chelan) led Western with 15.0 points, contributing her team-high seventh double-double of the season (11 kills, 17 digs). She also turned in a pair of solo blocks and block assists.
Senior opposite Jennica McPherson (Seattle, WA/Kennedy) recorded a match-high 20 digs to anchor the defense. Sophomore opposite Joellee Buckner added 17 digs.
The Vikings recorded 9 service aces, led by 4 from junior libero Bryce Larson (Mukilteo, WA/Kamiak).
Seattle Pacific was led by 16 kills from Lexi Biondi.
The Vikings close out the regular season Saturday at Saint Martins (Saturday, 7 pm). The NCAA Tournament selection show is Monday, Nov. 23 and the NCAA Tournament regionals are slated to start Dec. 3.
