Vikings Turn In Solid Performance at UW Invite

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Western Washington University Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field squad had a handful of athletes compete in the first day of the 2016 UW Indoor Invitational held at the Dempsey Indoor Track.

Notable performances included the following from WWU (full results below):

5,000m (Men): Isaac Derline (So., Kent, WA/Kentridge) finished 14th in 14:39.22, the 2nd-fastest time in the school record books and an NCAA II provisional mark (under the 14:44.96 standard)...Andrew Wise (Denver, CO/East) was 18th in 14:53.38 good for the 6th-fastest time in school history.
5,000m (Women): Three WWU racers entered the school top 10...Brittany Grant (Jr., Port Townsend, WA) finished 32nd in 17:36.90 for the 4th-fastest time in school history...Maddy Jalbert (Sr., Niwot, CO) placed 39th in 18:11.52 good for the 6th-fastest time by a WWU runner...Lillianna Stelling (Jr., Langley, WA/South Whidbey) recorded a PR in 18:26.42 the 7th-fastest mark.
200m (Women): Savannah Smith (Fr., Renton, WA) finished 37th with a PR of 26.00, tied for the 5th-fastest time in school history...Cheyenne Konrad (Fr., Mead, WA/Mt. Spokane) logged the 8th-fastest time in 26.12 while placing 43rd.
Weight Throw (Women): Megan Mortensen (Jr., Tacoma, WA/Franklin Pierce) finished 37th with a PR of 12.91m (42-4 ¼) tying for the 3rd-best mark in WWU history...Sophia Roberts (Fr., Ventura, CA) logged a PR of 11.86m (38-11) for the 10th-best mark in program history.
Distance Medley (Women): WWU's entry finished 9th in 12:15.15 for the 4th-fastest time in program history...relay team featured Tracy Melville (Fr., Lamont, WA/ Lind-Ritzville/Sprague), Garcia Reynolds (So, Camas, WA/St. Mary's), Kali Klotz-Brooks (Sr, Cheney, WA) and Taylor Guenther (Sr., Vancouver, WA/Prairie).
Distance Medley (Men): WWU's entry finished 12th in 10:36.67 for the 9th-fastest time in program history...relay team featured Dylan Brown (Auburn, WA/Auburn-Riverside/UW), Ben Crowell (Puyallup, WA/Rogers) Justin Irvine (Yakima, WA/East Valley) and Liam Cossette (Spokane, WA/Ferris).
Pole Vault (Women): Anna Paradee (So., Tacoma, WA/Decatur) placed 6th with a mark of 3.52m (11-06 ½) just missing the NCAA II provisional mark of 3.55.

Pole Vault (Men):
J.T. Konrad (So., Mead, WA/Mt. Spokane) placed 8th clearing 4.46m (14-07 ½) in his first attempt.
