BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Western Washington University Vikings opened the Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule sweeping a doubleheader against Simon Fraser University Saturday afternoon at Viking Field.
WWU beat the Clan 7-1 in the first game and scored a season-high 10 runs in a 10-5 victory in the second game. WWU improved to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in GNAC play with the sweep. SFU falls to 9-10 overall and 0-2 in GNAC play with the losses.
Junior catcher Lynsey Amundson (Arlington, WA) went 4-for-6 with 4 RBI in the two games and sophomore left fielder Sarah Morrow (Enumclaw, WA) was 4-for-4 with a double and 3 runs scored. Seniors Emma Blauser (3B, Federal Way, WA/Todd Beamer) and Alexie Levin (RF, Everett, WA) each tallied 3 hits.
Western combined to out-hit SFU 17-6 in the two games and were a combined 15-for-31 with runners in scoring position with 14 2-out RBI (12-for-26/.462 with 2 outs).
The Vikings and Clan complete their four-game season series tomorrow with a doubleheader north of the border in Burnaby starting at 1 pm. WWU has won the last 11 games in the head-to-head series.

Western Washington sophomore starting pitcher Makinlee Sellevold recorded seven strikeouts in a complete-game victory and junior catcher Lynsey Amundson went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI to lead the Vikings to a commanding 7-1 victory over Simon Fraser in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday to open GNAC play at Viking Field.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Western scored 7 unanswered runs to improve to 6-5 overall (1-0 GNAC). Simon Fraser drops to 9-9 overall with the loss.
After the Clan took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, WWU answered with 3 runs in the bottom half of the 1st inning to take the lead for good. Senior Jordan Walley (Maple Valley, WA/Tahoma) tied the game with a two-out RBI single and Amundson (Arlington, WA) put the Vikings ahead with a two-run double off the fence down the left field line.
Senior third baseman Emma Blauser (Federal Way, WA/Todd Beamer) added some insurance with a three-run home run to left-center in the bottom of the 5th inning.
Sellevold (Everett, WA/Cascade) earned the complete-game victory limiting the Clan to one run on 6 hits, while recording the second-most strikeouts in a game in her career (had 8 vs. Cal Baptist 2/13/15).
Senior right fielder Alexie Levin (Everett, WA) went 2-for-4 to record her team-high seventh multi-hit game of the season. In 11 games this season she is batting .500 (17-for-34).
Leadoff hitter Taylor Gillies went 2-for-3 to lead SFU at the plate. Starting pitcher Tori Belton (4-4) suffered the loss allowing 8 hits and 6 runs in 4.2 innings.

WWU earned the doubleheader sweep with a 10-5 victory in the second game. The game was tied 5-5 after the top of the 5th inning, but the Vikings scored 2 runs in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th inning to seal the win.
Left fielder Sarah Morrow went 4-for-4 and freshman starting pitcher Shearyna Labasan (Mililani, HI/Maryknoll) allowed 5 runs in 6.0 innings to earn the win and improve to 5-1 on the season.
The Vikings took the early lead with three runs in the first inning with Lynsey Amundson plating a run with a single and shortstop Makinlee Sellevold recording a 2-run single to right field.
SFU shortstop Hailey Gearey hit a 2-run home run in the top of the 2nd inning to cut the lead to 3-2.
After WWU tacked on runs in the 2nd and 3rd inning to cushion the lead to 5-2, SFU scored 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning to tie the game 5-5. First baseman Nicole Ratel had a 2-run double down the left field line and Gearey drove in the equalizer with a single through the right side.
Tied 5-5 in the bottom of the 5th inning, junior Kali Patterson (Bonney Lake, WA) put the Vikings ahead with a two-out, two-run single down the left field line. Senior center fielder Arianna Barrio (Stanwood, WA/Lakewood) reached on a fielding error to load the bases with and Patterson followed with the go-ahead single to the opposite field.
SFU left the bases loaded in the top of the 6th, and the Vikings capitalized adding three important insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead to 10-5. Morrow had a run-scoring double and Alexie Levin drove home a run with a bases loaded single.
The Vikings were 10-for-19 with runners in scoring position and scored 7 of the 10 runs with 2 outs.
Taylor Lundrigan went 3-for-4 and Gearey was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI to lead SFU at the plate. Jessica Goulet (0-2) suffered the loss allowing 8 hits and 4 runs (2 ER) in 4.0 innings of relief work.
