March 11, 2016 PITTSBURG, Kan. - Western Washington University senior hurdler Travis Milbrandt and junior high jumper Miranda Osadchey competed in the first day the NCAA II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kan.
Milbrandt (Sr., Longview, WA/Mark Morris) placed 14th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.22. He finished 7th in heat 2 of the prelims, falling short of his season-best 8.09 set at the GNAC Indoor Championships Feb. 20 in Nampa, Idaho.
Osadchey (Jr., DuPont, WA/Steilacoom) tied for 11th in the high jump clearing 1.66m (5' 5.25") on her final jump. She missed all three of her chances at 1.69m (5' 6.25"), falling short of her season-best and school-record mark of 1.74m (5' 8.5") set at the SPU Indoor Qualifier Feb. 27 in Seattle. Her 11th place finish earned her 2nd-team All-America honors.
Junior Jasmine McMullin (Sequim, WA) will compete in the Triple Jump tomorrow at 5:10 pm CT. McMullin heads into the meet ranked 7th in the triple jump with a school record jump of 12.22m (40' 1.25") set at the conference meet. Her mark set a conference meet record and is the 2nd-longest jump in GNAC history.
"The results are not was we had hoped for today, but both athletes worked extremely hard to get to this point and that is an achievement just getting to nationals," said head coach Pee Wee Halsell. "They gained some key experience heading into the outdoor season and into the future and that is key."
