PITTSBURG, Kan. - Western Washington University junior triple jumper Jasmine McMullin placed 11th in the triple jump at the NCAA II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kan.
McMullin (Sequim, WA) recorded the second-longest jump of her career at 12.00m (39' 4.5") to earn 2nd-Team USTFCCCA All-America honors. She recorded the 12.00m jump on her third and final attempt, just missing out qualifying for the final round. Her mark fell just shy of the WWU school record she set at 12.22m (40' 1.25") at the GNAC Indoor Championships Feb. 20 in Nampa, Idaho.
Senior Salcia Slack of New Mexico Highlands won the women's triple jump with a jump of 12.88m (42' 3.25").
McMullin joins junior high jumper Miranda Osadchey (DuPont, WA/Steilacoom) to earn 2nd-team All-America honors. Osadchey finished in a tie for 11th in Friday's high jump clearing 1.66m (5' 5.25").
Senior Travis Milbrandt (Sr., Longview, WA/Mark Morris) placed 14th in the 60m hurdles Friday with a time of 8.22. He finished 7th in heat 2 of the prelims, falling short of his season-best 8.09 set at the GNAC Indoor Championships Feb. 20 in Nampa, Idaho.
FOUR VIKINGS COMPETE IN HAMMER THROW AT PLU OPEN
Bryan Lee records 10th-best mark in WWU history in the hammer throw
PARKLAND, Wash. - Four members of the Western Washington University Track & Field team competed in the hammer throw at the PLU Open Saturday afternoon.
In the men's hammer, redshirt freshman Bryan Lee (Sammamish, WA/Skyline) finished 2nd with a throw of 50.82m (166' 9") for the 10th-best mark in WWU history. Sophomore Brandon Pless (Sedro Wooley, WA) was 4th with a throw of 50.03m (164' 2").
In the women's hammer, junior Megan Mortensen (Tacoma, WA/Franklin Pierce) placed 3rd with a toss of 39.95m (131' 1"), breaking her previous career best of 34.26m (112' 5") set last season. Freshman Sophia Roberts (Ventura, CA) was 5th in the competition recording a mark of 37.09m (121' 8").
The outdoor season resumes next weekend with the Vikings competing in the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open in Portland. The throwers will compete Friday at Clackamas Community College and the track events will be held Saturday at Eldon Fix Track at Griswold Stadium.
