BILLINGS, Mont. - The Western Washington Vikings combined to scored 33 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Montana State Billings Friday afternoon in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action at Avitus Group Stadium.

The Vikings (14-14, 9-9 GNAC) evened their overall and conference records with the 15-1 and 18-13 victories over the Yellowjackets. MSUB falls to 8-18 overall and 1-9 in GNAC play.

The scoring started in the first game, with WWU recording a 5-inning 15-1 victory behind an 11-run 5th inning to tie a WWU record for most runs in an inning, and continued in the second game with an 18-run outburst to fall one run short of the single-game record (19, 5/2/02 vs. Central Washington).

Overall Western combined to score 33 runs on 32 hits (13 extra-base hits) in the two games. Over the last three games 45 runs on 49 hits (15 runs per game average).

Senior third baseman Emma Blauser (Federal Way, WA/Todd Beamer) was 4-for-6 with 5 runs scored and hit her 5th home run of the season. Junior second baseman Kali Patterson (Bonney Lake, WA) was 6-for-10 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBI and senior right fielder Alexie Levin (Everett, WA) was 4-for-8 with 2 doubles and a home run.

Additionally, sophomore first baseman Emily Benson (West Richland, WA/Kamiakin) recorded a hit in both games (3-for-5, 4 R, HR, 2 RBI, 4 BB) to extend her hitting streak 13 consecutive games. Her home run in the second game was her GNAC leading 9th home run of the season, tied for 2nd-most in single-season WWU history.

The Vikings return to action tomorrow with another doubleheader at Montana State Billings with games scheduled to start at 11 am and 1 pm PT (12 & 2 pm MT). The game can be followed via live statistics and webcast via WWUVikings.com.

The Vikings recorded one of the best scoring innings in program history with an 11-run 5th inning en route to a 15-1 thumping of Montana State Billings in the first game of the GNAC doubleheader at Avitus Group Stadium.

WWU led 4-1 through four innings, and then sent 15 batters to the plate in the 11-run, 7-hit top of the 5th inning. Clark (3rd consecutive game with a HR) and Levin (19th career home run) each hit three-run home runs in the inning. The 11-run frame tied the school record for most runs scored in an inning, equaling a pair of 11-run outburst in 2002 (4/30/02 vs. Seattle U & 5/2/02 vs. Central Washington).

The Vikings recorded double-digits in runs (15) and hits (13) for the second consecutive game after totaling 12 runs and a season high 17 hits in their last game Tuesday at Central Washington (13-12 walk-off loss).

Levin was 1-for-3 with 3 RBI hitting her first home run of the season. With her 19th career homer she is now within 3 of the WWU record of 22 set by Meghan Flem (2007-10). Levin also moved into 3rd place with her 103rd career runs scored.

Benson went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored to extend her hitting streak to 12 consecutive games. Patterson added a 2-for-4 game with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and reached base safely in three of her five plate appearances. Clark continued her hot streak going 1-for-2 with her third home run of the season (in consecutive games) and also recorded a sacrifice and walk.

Starting pitcher Makinlee Sellevold (Everett, WA/Cascade) recorded her eighth complete game of the season picking up the win to improve to 5-7 on the season (5.0 IP, 6 H, R, 2 BB, 7 SO).

MSUB center fielder Bella Rovens went 3-for-3 and designated player Nicole Tiffany was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Vikings and Yellowjackets battled cold temperatures and even a little snow, but it didn't stop the bats from heating up as both teams combined for 31 runs and 32 hits in the 18-13 slugfest victory by WWU.

The see-saw affair featured three lead changes and two tie scores (5-5 after the 2nd inning & 8-8 after the 4th inning). The Vikings used a five-run 6th inning to take a 13-8 lead, but MSUB battled right back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to climb to within one run at 13-12. WWU followed with another five-run inning in the top of the 7th inning to put the game away for good and clinch the sweep.

Patterson (4-for-6, 2 R) and Blauser (4-for-4, 3 R, 3 RBI, HR, BB) were the big contributors in the Vikings 19-hit attack (2 short of single-game record).

Levin added 3 hits with a pair of doubles and Benson went 1-for-2 with 3 walks and clubbed her GNAC leading 9th home run of the season (16th career HR to tie for 3rd-most in WWU history).

Junior pitcher Aspen Ison (Gig Harbor, WA/Peninsula) earned the win with 4.0 solid relief innings, allowing 4 hits and 5 runs (3 BB, 6 SO). The victory was the 10th of her WWU career.

MSUB right fielder Heather Tracy was 4-for-4 with 3 runs scored, 2 home runs and 6 RBI to lead the `Jackets.
