BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Western Washington University softball team split a doubleheader against arch-rival Central Washington Friday afternoon in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action at Viking Field.
WWU beat CWU 2-1 in the first game, but dropped the second game 7-5. The Vikings are 24-21 overall and 13-13 in GNAC play heading into tomorrow's regular-season finale. CWU improves to 33-12 overall and 17-9 in GNAC play.
Sophomore Makinlee Sellevold (Everett, WA/Cascade) started both ends of the doubleheader, earning the complete-game victory with a 3-hitter in the first game. Her streak of six consecutive winning starts was snapped in the second game as she recorded a no-decision.
Senior right fielder Alexie Levin (Everett, WA) and sophomore left fielder Sarah Morrow (Enumclaw, WA) led the Vikings at the plate both going 3-for-5 in the doubleheader. Junior second baseman Kali Patterson (Bonney Lake, WA) continued her late-season surge going 3-for-8 to extend her hitting streak to nine consecutive games and raise her batting average to a team-high .382.
Junior Lynsey Amundson (Arlington, WA) went 2-for-5 and recorded 5 RBI combined between the two games.
WWU completes the regular season tomorrow with a doubleheader against Saint Martin's starting at noon. There will be a special pregame ceremony to honor the Vikings eight senior players.

Sophomore starting pitcher Makinlee Sellevold fired a 3-hit complete game to earn her the win in her sixth consecutive start leading the Vikings to a 2-1 win over the Wildcats in the first game of Friday's GNAC doubleheader.
Sellevold (Everett, WA/Cascade) allowed a run in the first inning, then shut CWU down the rest of the way allowing only two hits over the final 6.0 innings, allowing only two runners to reach scoring position. Over her last six starts Sellevold is 6-0 with a 2.73 ERA (16 ER, 41.0 IP) with 5 CG victories.
WWU was trailing 1-0 until the bottom of the 5th inning when junior catcher Lynsey Amundson recorded a 2-out, 2-run single to right-center field. Senior center fielder Arianna Barrio (Stanwood, WA/Lakewood) led off the inning reaching on an error and senior right fielder Alexie Levin was hit by a pitch to lead to the tying and go-ahead runs off the bat of Amundson.
Junior second baseman Kali Patterson went 1-for-4 to extend her hitting streak to a season-high 8 straight games.
CWU starting pitcher Kiana Wood suffered just her fourth loss of the season (17-4) allowing 6 hits and 2 runs (0 ER) in the 6.0-inning complete game.

The Vikings were unable to capitalize on a big four-run 3rd inning, letting the lead slip away in a 7-5 loss to the Wildcats in the second game of the GNAC Doubleheader at Viking Field.
CWU got to starting pitcher Makinlee Sellevold with 3 runs in the top of the 3rd inning, with third baseman Alexa Olague providing the big blow with a 2-run home run.
WWU answered with 4 runs in the bottom half of the 3rd inning to take a 4-3 lead. Alexie Levin started the scoring with a single and Lynsey Amundson tied the game with a 2-run double to left-center. Senior Emma Blauser (Federal Way, WA/Todd Beamer) plated the go-ahead run with an infield single.
The lead would hold for one more inning until the Wildcats pulled ahead with a 4-run top of the 5th inning. Catcher Austin Wilkerson and pitcher/designated player Brielle Copodonna both hit 2-run home runs in the inning.
Freshman Shearyna Labasan (Mililani, HI/Maryknoll) was saddled with the loss allowing 6 hits and 4 runs in 4.1 innings (2 K, 0 BB). Sellevold had her streak of six consecutive winning starts snapped allowing 5 hits and 3 runs in 2.2 innings.
The Vikings 1-2-3 hitters - Kali Patterson (2-for-4, 2B), Arianna Barrio (2-for-4, 2 R) and Levin (2-for-3, R, RBI) combined to go 6-for-11. Patterson extended her hitting streak to a season-high 9 consecutive games.
Copodonna (11-8) earned the win allowing 7 hits and 4 runs in 4.0 innings, and helped her own cause going 1-for-2 with the 2-run home run at the plate. Kayla Smith tallied the save for CWU allowing 1 hit over 2.0 scoreless innings.
