TURLOCK, Calif. - The Western Washington Vikings finished off play in the Tournament of Champions presented by the City of Turlock going 1-1 on Sunday, beating Cal State East Bay 5-3 in the morning game and falling to Cal State Monterey Bay 3-2 in the afternoon.

The Vikings completed play in the 26-team tournament hosted by Stanislaus State 4-2 to improve their season record to 21-18 overall. Western has won 9 of its last 13 games (9-4) to move from 12-14 overall to the current record of 21-18.

Junior second baseman Kali Patterson (Bonney Lake, WA) went 4-for-8 in Sunday's games (2-for-4 in each game), extending her team lead with 16 multi-hit games.

Overall for the six-game tournament Patterson led the Vikings batting .435 (10-for-23) and senior center fielder Arianna Barrio (Stanwood, WA/Lakewood) hit .429 (6-for-14) with a .579 on-base percentage. Sophomore Makinlee Sellevold (Everett, WA/Cascade) did a little of everything in the tournament going 2-0, 2.33 ERA (6 ER, 18.0 IP) in three appearances (2 starts) and hit .313 (5-for-16) with 5 runs scored, 3 extra-base hits (2B, 2 HR) and 8 RBI.

WWU returns to Great Northwest Athletic Conference play next weekend with road doubleheaders at Western Oregon (Saturday, April 9, 12 & 2 pm) and Concordia (Sunday, April 10, 12 & 2 pm).

The Vikings used a four-run 6th inning to erase a 3-1 deficit en route to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over Cal State East Bay in the first game of the day.

WWU sent nine batters to the plate in the top of the 6th inning with sophomore Sarah Morrow (Enumclaw, WA) providing the big hit with a two-out, two-run single to center field for the game-winning RBI.

Freshman starting pitcher Shearyna Labasan (Mililani, HI/Maryknoll) earned the complete-game victory (11-6) scattering 7 hits and 3 runs (2 ER).

Junior second baseman Patterson went 2-for-4 and sophomore first baseman Emily Benson (West Richland, WA/Kamiakin) reached base in three of her four plate appearances (2-for-3, BB).

The Vikings finished tournament play with a 3-2 defeat to Cal State Monterey Bay.

After falling behind 3-0 through 3.0 innings, the Vikings climbed to within one run at 3-2 with a two-run 4th inning.

Patterson continued her torrid tournament with a one-out RBI single to pull the Vikings to within one run, but Otters relief pitcher Bianca Noriega shut WWU down the rest of the way allowing one hit in 3.2 scoreless innings (5 K, 1 BB).

Patterson finished 2-for-4 with her team-leading 16th multi-hit game (6th in last 7 games) to lead WWU at the plate. The Vikings had their chances for the comeback, but went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Junior starting pitcher Aspen Ison (Gig Harbor, WA/Peninsula) suffered the loss allowing 6 hits and 3 runs in 3.0 innings. Sellevold completed her dominating tournament with 4.0 scoreless inning in a rare relief role.

Noriega (8-5) earned the win for the Otters and first baseman Madison Casto and center fielder Annelise Lopez both went 2-for-3.
