MONMOUTH, Ore. -- The Western Washington University softball squad split its doubleheader today at Western Oregon winning 7-4 in the first game and falling 5-4 in extra innings in the second game in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
The Vikings moved to 22-19 overall and remained at .500 in GNAC play with an 11-11 mark.
Sophomore Makinlee Sellevold (Everett, WA/Cascade) earned the pitching win in the first game with a complete-game effort and helped her own cause going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Junior second baseman Kali Patterson (Bonney Lake, WA) recorded a pair of multi-hit games going 5-for-8 for the day. Patterson, the reigning GNAC Player of the Week, has strung together five consecutive multi-hit games (and 8 of last 9) to raise her season batting average to a team-high .387.
WWU returns to action tomorrow with a GNAC doubleheader against Concordia at Delta Park in Portland (12 & 2 pm).

Sophomore starting pitcher Makinlee Sellevold fired her fourth consecutive complete-game victory to lead the Vikings to a 7-4 victory over Western Oregon in the first game of a GNAC doubleheader.
WWU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a single tally in the 1st inning and a pair of runs in the 2nd inning. Senior right fielder Alexie Levin (Everett, WA) opened the scoring with a run-scoring double in the top of the 1st.
WOU tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the 3rd, but the Vikings answered with a pair of runs in the 5th inning and cushioned the lead with a 2-run 7th inning. Junior catcher Lynsey Amundson (Arlington, WA) provided the game-winning RBI with a two-out RBI double in the 5th inning.
Leadoff hitter Kali Patterson led WWU going 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI, increasing her team-leading batting average to .384 (56-for-146). Patterson has recorded multiple hits in four consecutive, and seven of her last eight games.
Sophomore first baseman Emily Benson (West Richland, WA/Kamiakin) went 2-for-4 and Sellevold was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI to round out the Vikings contributing multi-hit games.
In the circle Sellevold scattered 7 hits (6 singles, 1 triple) and allowed 4 runs while recording her 12th complete-game of the season. Over her last four starts she is 4-0 (all CG) with a 3.00 ERA (12 ER, 28.0 IP).

The Vikings were out-hit 12-6 and could not take advantage of four Western Oregon errors falling to the Wolves 5-4 in extra innings in the second game of the doubleheader.
WOU left fielder Ryanne Huffman recorded a two-out, walk-off double to the right-center field gap to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning.
WWU was staked to a 3-1 lead after the top of the 2nd inning, but couldn't hold onto the lead when WOU tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the 4th inning. Both teams exchanged runs in the 5th inning before the Wolves recorded the walk-off victory to even the season series at 2-2.
Kali Patterson (2-for-4) and Alexie Levin (2-for-4, R, 2B, RBI) each recorded multi-hit games for the Vikings.
Freshman Shearyna Labasan (Mililani, HI/Maryknoll) was saddled with the loss (11-7) allowing 12 hits and 5 runs in 7.2 innings, recording her 9th complete game of the season.
WOU second baseman Kelsie Gardner went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and first baseman Ashlee Lynch was 2-for-4 and hit her 6th home run of the season.
