May 27, 2016 BRADENTON, Fla. - Led by a 9th-place finish in the 110m Hurdles by senior Travis Milbrandt and a 10th-place finish in the 200m by senior Alex Donigian, the Western Washington University Track & Field program completed the second day of competition at the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
Milbrandt (Longview, WA/Mark Morris) capped his career finishing 9th in the 110m Hurdles in 14.22, equaling the second-fastest time of his career trailing only his school and GNAC record 14.19 set earlier this season. He missed qualifying for Saturday's finals by 11/100th. Milbrandt also earns second-team All-America honors and was a four-time GNAC individual champion, repeating in the 60m Hurdles (indoor) and 110m Hurdles (outdoor) in his junior and senior seasons.
Donigian (Mission Viejo, CA/Trabuco Hills/Saddleback JC/Northern Colorado) placed 10th in the 200m in 21.25, the second-fastest time of his career trailing only his school-record 20.93 set at the Bryan Clay Invitational earlier this season. Donigian also placed 10th in Thursday's 100m prelim to earn second-team All-America honors in both events. The senior ends his career as one of the most prolific runners in school history earning nine individual GNAC titles (5 outdoor, 4 indoor) and was a six-time USTFCAA All-American (4 first-team, 2 second-team honors).
Junior Megan Mortensen (Tacoma, WA/Franklin Pierce) finished 17th in the women's discus competition logging a throw of 43.10m/141-5. Mortensen won the GNAC title in the event in back-to-back seasons.
