PORTLAND, Ore. - The 23rd-ranked Western Washington University Vikings opened their Oregon road trip with a three-game sweep of Concordia Thursday evening in Great Northwest Athletic Conference volleyball action at LCEF Court. Game scores were 25-18, 25-21 and 25-16.
Western improved to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in GNAC play with the victory, while Concordia falls to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Sophomore outside hitter Abby Phelps (Manson, WA/Chelan) led a balanced team effort with 12 kills and 14 digs to record her GNAC leading ninth double-double of the season.
"I felt like this was one of our best all-around team efforts of the season," said head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "It is hard to single out one player because everyone did so well sticking to our game plan. I felt like we had a good, calm energy on the court. They were very focused and responded well to situations tonight. Just a very solid team effort where they trusted each other to do their jobs."
Sophomore Michaela Hall (Centralia, WA) added 9 kills on a .467 hitting percentage (9-2-15) and junior Arielle Turner (Leavenworth, WA/Cascade) turned in 8 kills, 3 blocks and 1 service ace. Redshirt freshman Kazlyn Roullier (Spokane Valley, WA/Central Valley) added 8 kills in the victory.
Redshirt freshman libero Mae Thungc (Kent, WA/Kentridge) led all players with a career-high 26 digs and junior setter Kristina Tribley (Wenatchee, WA) led Western with 24 assists.
Concordia was led by 11 kills from Tori Johnson and 10 kills from Lindsey Dorsey.
The Vikings (7-6 overall, 3-2 GNAC) continue their Oregon road trip Saturday with a 7 pm match at Western Oregon.
