Box Score

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Sophomore outside hitter Abby Phelps recorded her third double-double of the young season with 15 kills and 16 digs to lead the Vikings to a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-12, 25-18) over Truman Saturday morning in the final match of the Concordia-St. Paul Tournament.

The No. 5 Vikings (1-3) recorded their first victory of the season after dropping their first three matches vs. ranked opponents, including two against top-ranked Concordia-St. Paul.

"We came here knowing the competition was going to be really tough and we tested ourselves," said 17th-year head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "We got exposed a little bit and learned a lot about what we need to work on as a team. We'll get back to work and prepare for another tough tournament next weekend in Sonoma."

Phelps (Manson, WA/Chelan) led all players with 15 kills on a .278 hitting percentage (15-5-36). She added 16 digs to round out the tournament with impressive totals of 3.64 kills/game and 4.50 digs/game.

Sophomore middle blocker Kayleigh Harper (Oak Harbor, WA) added 9 kills (.438) and 3 blocks in the victory. Junior opposite Arielle Turner (Leavenworth, WA/Cascade) continued her solid start to the season with 8 kills, 7 digs and 3 service aces.

Sophomore middle blocker Michaela Hall (Centralia, WA) contributed 8 kills and redshirt freshman outside hitter Kazlyn Roullier (Spokane, WA/Central Valley) recorded career highs in kills (5) and digs (8).

Setters Brett Boesel (So., Brewster, WA) and Kristina Tribley (Jr., Wenatchee, WA) each tallied 22 assists while running a balanced offense.

Truman was led by a double-double from Kayla Bastian (10 kills, 18 digs) and 8 blocks from Natlie Brimeyer.

WWU returns to action next week with four matches in the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase hosted by Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. The Vikings will face west region foes Dixie State (Thursday, 3 pm), Sonoma State (Friday, 10 am), Cal Baptist (Friday, 5:30 pm) and Cal State San Bernardino (Saturday, 5 pm).
