PULLMAN, Wash. - Junior pole vaulter Anna Paradee placed 3rd in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 3.70m (12-1 ½) on Friday to highlight the first day of competition for the Western Washington University track & field program at the Cougar Indoor, hosted by Washington State University.

Paradee (Tacoma, WA/Decatur) cleared 3.70m (12-1 ½) on her first attempt at the height to improve upon the NCAA II provisional effort of 3.68m (12-0 ¾) she set on Jan. 14 at the season-opening UW Indoor Preview. She posted the best height of any NCAA II competitor in the event and her mark ranks 4th on the all-time WWU top 10 indoor list.

Senior Megan Mortensen (Tacoma, WA/Franklin Pierce) placed 6th in the weight throw with a toss of 14.69m (48-2 ½). She was just shy of her personal-best mark (14.79m, 48-6 ¼) set at the UW Indoor Preview, which ranks No. 2 on the WWU top 10 list.

In the men's weight throw, junior Bryan Lee (Sammamish, WA/Skyline) placed 4th with a mark of 16.67m (54-8 ¼). He had the best distance of any NCAA II competitor in the event. His personal-best mark of 17.22m (56-6) set last season is No. 3 on the WWU top 10 list.

The majority of WWU competitors at the meet will be in action Saturday. Competition resumes at 10 am on Saturday and will continue through the last scheduled event set for 4:30 pm. Click here to access a full schedule and heat sheets.
