NAMPA, Idaho -- Junior Kaylie Greninger finished 4th with a personal-best and NCAA Division II provisional-qualifying score of 4,570 points in the heptathlon at the 2017 GNAC Combined Events Championships, held Monday and Tuesday at Brian and Nichole Bohner Track on the campus of Northwest Nazarene University.
Greninger (Sammamish, WA/Skyline), the lone competitor for WWU at the GNAC Combined Events Championships, was 6th at the conclusion of four events following Monday's competition before moving up to 4th after the final three events held on Tuesday. She scored 5 points for the WWU team score with her 4th-place finish among the 14 competitors. Her points count toward the overall team score for WWU at the GNAC Outdoor Championships, which will be held May 12-13 at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Ore.
The provisional national qualifier score of 4,570 points totaled by Greninger on Monday and Tuesday bettered her previous personal-best score of 4,462 points, set at the 2015 GNAC Combined Events Championships. Her score ranks No. 3 in WWU history and is among the top 35 nationally during the 2017 season.
Greninger won the javelin on Tuesday with a personal-best mark of 37.35m/122-6.75 to improve upon her previous top distance of 34.57m/113-5. She followed up her personal-best effort in the javelin with a personal-best time of 2:21.76 in the 800m to place 6th in the event. Greninger began Tuesday with a 9th-place finish in the long jump after a leap of 4.99m/16-4.5.
Monday's competition featured three season-best performances from Greninger in the four events held during the day. She placed 9th with a season-best time of 16.30 in the 100m hurdles and cleared a season-best height of 1.50m/4-11 in the high jump to tie for 9th. After placing 2nd in the shot put (10.57m/34-8.25), she closed out Monday with a season-best time of 26.78 in the 200m to place 7th in the event.

Karolin Anders of Alaska Anchorage took home the heptathlon title with a score of 5,032 points, followed by Seattle Pacific's Scout Cai (2nd, 4,894 points) and Brooke Benner (3rd, 4,579 points). On the men's side, Payton Lewis of Northwest Nazarene totaled 6,815 points to take home the decathlon title.
The WWU track & field teams travel to the University of Washington for the Ken Shannon Invitational on Friday and Saturday before heading to the GNAC Outdoor Championships next week.
