Grant Competes in Steeplechase at NCAA Championships

BRADENTON, Fla. - Senior Brittany Grant placed 11th in her preliminary heat of the women's 3,000m steeplechase on Thursday at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at IMG Academy.

Grant (Port Townsend, WA), competing in the event for the second consecutive season on the national stage during the outdoor season, finished with a time of 11:49.98 to place 11th in the heat and 22nd overall after two heats were completed.

Alex Burkhart of Chico State won heat 1 with a time of 10:25.80 while Saint Leo's Colett Rampf was the top finisher in heat 2 with a time of 10:23.91. The top 4 times from each heat, as well as the next four fastest times, advanced to the final to be held Friday afternoon.

The 2017 GNAC 3,000m steeplechase champion and a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-West Region honoree, Grant ran a personal-best time of 10:32.60 during the 2017 season ranking No. 2 in WWU history and No. 6 in GNAC history.

Action continues at the national championships on Saturday morning for WWU, beginning with senior Bethany Drake (Sandy, OR) competing in the javelin at 8:30 am PT followed by junior Anna Paradee (Tacoma, WA/Decatur) competing in the pole vault at 11:30 am PT. The championships are streamed live on NCAA.com each day with live results also available online.
