Box Score

LAKELAND, Fla. - The No. 12-ranked Western Washington University volleyball team recorded a dominating 25-9, 25-10, 25-13 sweep over Pace in the second match of The Terrace Hotel Classic Friday afternoon at Jenkins Field House.

WWU (1-1) rebounded from a hard-fought loss against top-ranked and defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul in the morning. The Vikings never trailed in the match against Pace (Pleasantville, NY) while recording a .484 team hitting percentage.

"This was a great response to this morning's match against Concordia," said head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "I am really proud of how the team played from point one to 25 in every set."

Junior outside hitter Abby Phelps (Manson, WA/Chelan) again led the way for the Viking recording a double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs (.545 hitting percentage). The 2016 AVCA honorable mention All-American finished the first day of the season averaging 5.33 kills per game with a .458 hitting percentage.

Junior setter Brett Boesel (Brewster, WA) was efficient in running the offense with 40 assists and finished the day averaging 12.00 assists per game.

"For our team to hit as efficient as we did, it took great first ball contacts by our receivers and for setter Brette Boesel to put the ball on the money," added Flick-Williams. "Brette really ran a good offense in the match."

Sophomore middle blocker Joslyn Bopray (Spokane, WA/Lewis & Clark) recorded a career-high 8 kills (.538 hitting percentage) and junior middle blocker Michaela Hall (Centralia, WA) added 9 kills and 3 block assists for 10.5 total points.

Pace (0-2) was led by 6 kills from Natalia Quinones and 13 digs by Danielle Vaiano.

The Vikings return complete tournament play tomorrow facing New Haven in the morning (10:30 am ET/7:30 am PT) and host Florida Southern in the evening (7 pm ET/4 pm PT). Both matches can be streamed and followed via Live Stats online at Florida Southern's Gameday Central.
