BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Senior Jasmine McMullin has been named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) First Team All-American after placing 4th in the triple jump at the 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships last Saturday at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The USTFCCCA announced the list of All-America honorees on Monday. Student-athletes are recognized with First-Team All-America honors for placing among the top 8 in their respective events, including members of relay teams, at the national championships. Second-Team All-America honors are given to those placing 9th through 16th in individual events, or on relay teams placing 9th or 10th.
McMullin (Sequim, WA) concluded her career as a two-time indoor triple jump USTFCCCA All-American after placing 11th in the event at the 2016 national championships. She is one of 10 WWU women's track & field student-athletes during the Division II era to earn USTFCCCA indoor All-America honors in an individual event (15 student-athletes overall including relay teams) and one of four Vikings to earn multiple indoor All-America honors in individual events during a career (six student-athletes overall including relay teams).
With her first All-America honor in 2016, McMullin joined Emily Warman as Vikings to net All-America accolades in the triple jump at the indoor championships. Warman was the national champion in the triple jump during 2009.
McMullin recorded a leap of 12.53m (41-1 ½) on her sixth and final jump attempt last Saturday to move from 7th to 4th place in the final standings among the field of 18 competitors. She concluded her WWU career as a three-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference indoor triple jump champion (six individual GNAC titles overall), holding the conference and school records for the indoor triple jump (12.68m, 41-7 ¼).
The record-setting jump came at the 2018 GNAC Indoor Championships as she was named the GNAC Women's Field Athlete of the Meet and honored with the Women's Performance of the Meet, winning conference titles in the triple jump and long jump.
WWU will continue the outdoor season schedule with the Seattle Pacific University Doris Heritage Distance Festival on Saturday, March 24. The following weekend, WWU will be in four locations over a two-day span with the San Francisco State Distance Carnival (March 30-31, Hayward, CA), Stanford Invitational (March 30-31, Stanford, CA) UBC Open (March 30-31, Vancouver, BC) and UPS Shotwell Invitational (March 31, Tacoma, WA).
