Simon Fraser starting pitcher Alia Stachoski recorded an 11-strikeout one-hitter to open the doubleheader with a 2-0 victory over the host Vikings.

Stachoski and WWU's Anna Kasner were locked in a pitcher's duel that featured only 5 combined hits with 20 pitching strikeouts.

SFU got on the board with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Left fielder Chelsea Hotner reached on a one-out single and advanced into scoring position on a fielding error by WWU shortstop Paityn Cyr (So., Mount Vernon, WA). The go-ahead and eventual game-winning run came in to score on a bunt single by second baseman Victoria Saunders.

WWU's lone hit came in the bottom of the 5th inning when freshman first baseman Rylie Wales (Snohomish, WA) singled sharply through the left side of the infield to break up Stachoski's no-hitter.

Kasner was once again solid in the circle allowing only 4 hits and 2 unearned runs in her 7th complete-game effort of the season. She struck out 9 batters and has not allowed an earned run over her last 16.0 innings of work to lower her season ERA to 4.09. She retired 14 of the final 15 batters she faced after allowing the unearned runs in the 3rd inning.

Game 2: SFU 3, WWU 1 Box Score | Game Book

The second game of Saturday's doubleheader featured another pitcher's duel with WWU's Shearyna Labasan and SFU's Jessica Tate squaring off in the circle.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first six innings of the game, before SFU broke through with 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning when they sent 9 batters to the plate. The go-ahead run crossed the plate on a groundball to WWU's first baseman Rylie Wales, whose throw to home plate beat the advancing runner, but was mishandled by freshman catcher Erica Hardy (Henderson, NV/Coronado) for the error.

After the Clan added to their lead with two more runs, the Vikings staged a comeback attempt in the bottom half of the 7th inning. Western loaded the bases with one out and freshman second baseman Kira Doan (Brier, WA/Mountlake Terrace) delivered with a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-1. Kasner stepped to the plate as the potential game-winning run, but grounded out to shortstop to end the game.

Labasan (4-6) suffered the loss allowing 6 hits and 3 runs (1 ER) in the complete-game effort. She led the Vikings at the plate going 3-for-3 with her team-leading 7th double of the season.

Tate (2-0) earned the win for SFU allowing 2 hits in 6.0 shutout innings and Alia Stachoski recorded her second save of the season allowing one run in the 7th inning.

SFU shortstop Taylor Lundrigan was 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Clan at the plate.
