Game 2: SFSU 8, WWU 4 Box Score | Game Book

A big 7-run 2nd inning by San Francisco State proved to be too much to overcome in WWU's 8-4 loss to the Gators in the second game of the day at Warrior Softball Field in Turlock.

The game had a one-hour rain delay after the top of the 1st inning, but the game resumed with good weather the rest of the way.

SFSU scored a run in the first inning after a leadoff single by Michelle Castro, two stolen bases, and a passed ball resulted in the go-ahead run.

On the passed ball, WWU starting pitcher Anna Kasner (Milton, WA/Fife) was injured while covering home plate and did not pitch past the 2nd inning.

The Vikings made 3 errors in the bottom of the 2nd inning to help fuel the Gators' 7-run inning, in which they sent 12 batters to the plate.

Kasner (5-8) suffered the loss allowing 4 runs (3 ER) on 2 hits in 1.0+ innings of work. She struck out 3 and issued one walk in her shortest outing of the season. Junior relief pitcher Morgan VanRiper (Kalama, WA) pitched a career-high 5.0 innings, allowing 6 hits and 4 runs (2 ER).

WWU out-hit SFSU 10-8, with Paityn Cyr (2-for-4, R), Sam Silver (2-for-4, 2B, R, RBI) and Lauren Lo (2-for-2, 2 RBI, BB) leading the way.

SFSU were led by a 2-for-3 performance by shortstop Hayley Nunes. The Gators recorded 7 stolen bases in the game.

Starting pitcher Lindsey Cassidy (7-7) earned the win scattering 7 hits and 3 runs in 4.0 innings and Karlo Soto recorded her first save with a scoreless inning of work in the 7th inning.
