BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Western Washington University softball team was swept in its tripleheader against Montana State Billings on Friday at Avitus Group Stadium.

WWU was defeated 2-1, 9-2 and 7-3 in the rare tripleheader that had a game added to the normal doubleheader schedule due to inclement weather in the forecast for Saturday. The two teams will attempt to complete the four-game series on Saturday with a single game starting at noon MT (11 am PT).

Freshman second baseman Kira Doan (Brier, WA/Mountlake Terrace) led WWU at the plate during the three games, combining to go 5-for-11 with a home run and 2 RBI. Sophomore center fielder Jackie Lucido (San Jose, CA/Piedmont Hills) added a 3-hit game in the finale and recorded her team-leading 20th RBI during the day.

Of Western's 6 runs scored in the three games, 4 came via solo home runs, including the first collegiate homers from Doan and freshman left fielder Lauren Lo (Issaquah, WA/Skyline). The Vikings entered the game having not hit a home run in 13 consecutive games, and hit only one homer in the previous 19 games.

WWU's pitching was touched for 25 hits and 18 runs in the three games. Junior Shearyna Labasan (Mililani, HI/Maryknoll) struck out a career-high 10 batters in the first game, but was saddled with the tough-luck loss in the 2-1 final.

WWU falls to 11-23 overall and is 5-10 in GNAC play. Montana State Billings improved to 15-17 overall and 5-6 in league play.

Shearyna Labasan struck out a career-high 10 batters and Lauren Lo hit her first collegiate home run, but a 2-run double by MSUB in the bottom of the 3rd inning proved to be costly in a 2-1 loss in the first game of the tripleheader.

MSUB jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a 2-out, 2-run double in the bottom of the 3rd inning by first baseman Cameron Cassinelli. The Yellowjackets put a pair of runners in scoring position on a single by center fielder Amanda Barham and double by second baseman Myrissa Prince. Labasan struck out designated player Megan Dettling for the second out of the inning, but couldn't get out of the jam allowing the 2-out double to the left field gap on a 2-2 pitch.

The Vikings were limited to two hits through the first six innings before Lo led off the 7th inning with a solo home run to center field. MSUB starter Maddy Lincoln finished off her complete-game retiring the next three hitters she faced to earn the win improving to 8-9 on the season.

Labasan was the tough-luck loser falling to 4-12 on the season. The junior allowed 5 hits and 2 runs in 6.0 innings, striking out 10 and issuing a pair of walks. Her previous career-high in strikeouts were 9 vs. Hawai'i Hilo in 2016 and at BYU Hawai'i in 2017.

Lo recorded 2 of WWU's 3 hits and sophomore shortstop Paityn Cyr (Mount Vernon, WA) was 1-for-3.
