CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Western Washington University senior Anna Paradee finished with a no height in the pole vault at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Outdoor Championships on Thursday at the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.
Paradee (Tacoma, WA/Decatur) attempted at the opening height of 3.65m (11-11 ¾) and was one of eight competitors to finish with a no height. Slippery Rock's Courtney McQuaide won the national title with a height of 3.95m (12-11 ½) to edge Missouri Southern's Emily Presley, the two-time defending champion, on a fewer misses tiebreaker.
Paradee qualified for the national championships with a season-best height of 3.97m (13-0 ¼) and made her third trip to an NCAA Championships after competing at both the indoor and outdoor national championships in 2017. She finished 7th at the 2017 indoor championships and 11th at the 2017 outdoor championships to earn All-America honors.
A four-time All-GNAC honoree at the GNAC Outdoor Championships and 2016 outdoor conference pole vault champion, Paradee closes out her WWU outdoor career as the conference and school record holder in the pole vault at a personal-best height of 4.01m (13-1 ¾) set in 2017. She is a three-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-West Region honoree for the outdoor pole vault as well.
Paradee did not compete during the 2018 indoor season and is set to return for her senior season of indoor competition in 2019.
Three WWU javelin throwers will be in action at the national championships on Saturday. Junior Alex Barry (Sequim, WA) competes in the men's javelin starting at 7:30 am PT on Saturday, followed by sophomore Raquel Pellecer (Sandy, OR/Portland State) and freshman Natalie Vetto (Kirkland, WA/Lake Washington) competing in the women's javelin beginning at 10:15 am PT.
