2018 Season IN REVIEW

Head Coach: Amy Suiter (8th season, 211-179/.541)
GNAC Regular Season Finish: 7th

Completed the 2018 season with a 15-32 overall record and finished 7th in the GNAC with a 9-19 record…did not qualify for the GNAC Championships after winning the tournament title in 2017…opened the season dropping the first 7 games, followed immediately by winning 7 of next 11 games to pull to within 4 games of the .500 mark at 7-11…went 2-4 at the Tournament of Champions hosted by Stanislaus State in Turlock, Calif….were at 6-11 in GNAC play through the first 17 games, but dropped 8 of last 11 games…the roster consisted of 14 players that saw action during the season, with 11 underclassmen (7 freshmen)…junior Shearyna Labasan was named First Team All-GNAC as a utility player and Second Team NFCA All-West Region…senior Carlie Richards earned honorable mention All-GNAC honors as an outfielder…three players earned All-GNAC Academic honors - Kylisa Hull, Anna Kasner, Morgan VanRiper - with VanRiper a two-time selection…team finished with a .254 batting average (8th in GNAC), 3.85 ERA (4th in GNAC) and .941 fielding percentage (7th in GNAC)…head coach Amy Suiter stepped down following the season leaving WWU with a 211-179 (.541) record in her 8 seasons leading the program, the 2nd-most wins by a head coach in program history.

LABASAN TWO-WAY THREAT…junior Shearyna Labasan earned First Team All-GNAC honors as a utility player, proving to be a threat on offense, defense and in the pitching circle…at the plate she batted .421 (59-for-140) to rank 3rd in the GNAC and record the 3rd-best single-season batting average in WWU single-season history…amongst GNAC leaders also ranked 2nd in on-base percentage (.500), 5th in slugging percentage (.586), tied for 5th in walks (22), 6th in hits (59), tied for 7th in doubles (11), 10th in runs scored (31)…her on-base percentage is 3rd and slugging percentage is 6th-best in WWU single-season history…Labasan finished her third collegiate season with the highest career batting average (.373/123-for-330) and on-base percentage (.456) in program history…also listed in WWU's career record pitching record book for most appearances (79, 7th), game started (58, 7th), complete games (40, T5th), innings pitched (403.1, 7th), strikeouts (251, 7th), wins (28, 10th) and saves (4, 3rd).

KASNER WITH A K…sophomore Anna Kasner tied for 3rd in the GNAC with 102 strikeouts and led the league with 8.08 strikeouts per 7.0 innings…she did not pitch in the final month of the season (WWU's last 13 games) after suffering a back injury…through the first two seasons of her collegiate career has recorded 290 strikeouts, 5th-most in program history and 22nd-best in GNAC history…8.75 K/7.0 IP is tops in WWU history and 3rd in GNAC history…22 career wins is tied for 11th in the WWU career record book and 8 shutouts rank tied for 6th.

ODDS AND ENDS…sophomore Paityn Cyr led the team with 6 home runs, tied for 9th in the GNAC…Cyr has 11 career home runs, tied for 10th-best in WWU history…sophomore Jackie Lucido led the team and tied for 14th in the GNAC with 27 RBI, and also tied for 12th with 5 home runs…Lucido tied WWU's single-game record with 7 RBI Feb. 10 vs. Colorado Mines, blasting a pair of 3-run home runs in consecutive plate appearances…freshman Rylie Wales set WWU's freshman record with 23 walks to lead the team and rank 4th in the GNAC…Wales also finished tied for 15th in the GNAC with a .399 on-base percentage and was 3rd on the team batting .279 (34-for-122)…senior Carlie Richards was 2nd on the team with a .316 (30-for-95) batting average (4 2B, 3 HR, 20 RBI) and led the league with 10 hit-by-pitch…finished her career with a program-record 25 HBP, 4th-best in GNAC history…freshman Lauren Lo was 4th on the team in batting average (.273), 3rd in doubles (7) and 5th in hits (33)…freshman Kira Doan was one of two players to appear in all 47 games and was a two-way player batting .272 (37-for-136) with 9 doubles and 2 home runs and went 4-4 with a 4.34 ERA in the circle…
