SEASIDE, Calif. – The Western Washington University men's golf team is in 12th place after the first two rounds of the Otter Invitational following play on Monday at Black Horse Golf Course.
WWU turned in rounds of 301 (+13) in the morning and 305 (+17) in the afternoon to finish at 30-over-par 606 through the first two rounds of the three-round, 54-hole tournament. No. 1 nationally-ranked Barry leads the 16-team field at 4-under-par 572, with tournament host Cal State Monterey Bay in 2ndplace seven strokes back at 3-over-par 579.
WWU senior Ethan Casto continued his excellent start to the 2019-20 season, heading into Tuesday's final round tied for 5th place at 2-over-par 142. Casto turned in a first-round score of 3-under-par 69, and recorded a 1-over-par 73 in the second round. Casto recorded 10 birdies to tie for 5th in the 84-player field.
Freshman Drew Halili is tied for 39th at 7-over-par 151 (74-77) and redshirt sophomore Aidan Thain is tied for 58th at 11-over-par 155 (79-76).
Max Murai of Cal State East Bay holds the individual tournament lead at 6-under-par 138 after firing matching rounds of 3-under-par 69.
Tuesday's final round tees off at 8 am with WWU beginning on holes 11, 12 and 13.

The WWU men's golf team has an incredible streak of advancing to the NCAA Championships in each of the 21 seasons the program has competed at the NCAA Division II level dating back to the 1998-99 season, including a 3rd-place finish at the 2013 national championship. The program has produced 17 All-Americans and has won 9 of 12 Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships since the tournament debuted in 2008, including the 2019 title. The Vikings have also featured the GNAC Championships individual medalist in 8 of 12 tournaments, including 2018 champion Ethan Casto and 2019 champion Brody Bonfilio.
