SEASIDE, Calif. – Western Washington University senior men's golfer Ethan Casto continued his torrid start to the 2019-20 season tying for 3rd place at the Otter Invitational with the 54-hole tournament wrapping up play on Tuesday at Black Horse Golf Course.
Casto (Snohomish, WA) turned in a three-round total of 2-under-par 214 to earn his fourth top-10 finish in four starts this season, and his third top-5 finish. In four tournaments this season, Casto has recorded scores of at or below par in 10 of 12 rounds. The senior finished the tournament with 15 birdies, second-most in the 84-player field.

As a team, the Vikings placed 12th out of 16 teams finishing at 44-over-par 908 for the tournament.
No. 1 nationally-ranked Barry recorded a 14-strike team victory finishing at 1-over-par 865, with Cal State San Marcos and tournament host Cal State Monterey Bay tying for 2nd place at 15-over-par 879.
Brad Sparrer of Stanislaus State won individual medalist honors at 6-under-par 210, recording a three-stroke victory over Barry's Felipe Alvarez (-3, 213).
WWU redshirt sophomore Aidan Thain (Bellevue, WA/Sammamish/Colorado Mesa) shot a final-round 1-under-par 71 to move up 24 spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 34th place at 10-over-par 226.
The Vikings close out the fall portion of the 2019-20 schedule next week at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawai'i. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will tee off on Monday, October 28 at the Waikoloa Kings Course and is hosted by the University of Hawai'i-Hilo.

The WWU men's golf team has an incredible streak of advancing to the NCAA Championships in each of the 21 seasons the program has competed at the NCAA Division II level dating back to the 1998-99 season, including a 3rd-place finish at the 2013 national championship. The program has produced 17 All-Americans and has won 9 of 12 Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships since the tournament debuted in 2008, including the 2019 title. The Vikings have also featured the GNAC Championships individual medalist in 8 of 12 tournaments, including 2018 champion Ethan Casto and 2019 champion Brody Bonfilio.
