PORTLAND, Ore. – The Western Washington University women's golf team holds a share of the team lead heading into Tuesday's final round at the Concordia Invitational.
The two-day, 36-hole tournament opened with first round play at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, with the Vikings turning in a score of 12-over-par 300. It marked WWU's lowest team score since the first tournament of the 2018-19 season.
Heading into Tuesday's final round, WWU is tied with Great Northwest Athletic Conference rival Simon Fraser, with both holding a six-stroke advantage over third-place Holy Names (+18, 306). Tournament host Concordia (+26, 314) is in fourth place and Northwest Nazarene (+30, 318) rounds out the top five in the 10-team field.
"I was really pleased with today's round. They played smart golf, stayed positive throughout the day and finished strong," said WWU assistant coach and former Viking All-American Katja Parrish. "I am looking forward to a good battle in the final round tomorrow."
WWU senior Lacy Overstreet (Dallas, TX/Legacy Christian/Montevallo) is tied for 2nd place in the 54-player field carding a 1-over-par 73. Overstreet, the 2018-19 GNAC co-Player of the Year and championships medalist, birdied her final two holes on Monday to finish her round at 1-over-par. She is two shots back of tournament leader Sophia Young of Holy Names (-1, 71).
Playing in the Vikings No. 1 slot, junior Megan Billeter (Spokane, WA/Mt. Spokane) continued the solid start to her season with a 2-over-par 74 to tie for 5th place heading into the final 18 holes.
Freshman Elise Sumner (North Tustin, CA/Foothill) is also in the top 10 tied for 7th place with a first-round 3-over-par 75 and sophomore Sarah Shea (Sequim, WA)
Tuesday's final round is scheduled for a shotgun start at 9 am with WWU's players teeing off holes 1-5. The tournament leaderboard can be followed via GolfStat at WWUVikings.com/WG_Live.

The WWU women's golf team recently completed its 26th season as an intercollegiate sport in 2018-19 with a third-place finish at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships. The Vikings won the first five GNAC Championships beginning with the inaugural event in 2011, and have placed in the top three during all nine conference tournaments. WWU has made 10 appearances in the NCAA II West Regional Championships, last in 2016, and six trips to the NCAA II National Championships. A Viking has been named the GNAC Player of the Year in seven of the nine years it has been awarded, including 2018-19 conference co-Player of the Year Lacy Sheldon. WWU has also produced the only two players in GNAC history to earn four First Team All-GNAC awards (Jenn Paul and Kristen Hansen) and has produced nine All-Americans.
