ELLENSBURG & LACEY, Wash. – A blazing fast time in the 100m, a top-5 time in program history in the 110m Hurdles and a top-10 pole vault mark highlighted a great day of competition for the Western Washington University Track & Field program on Saturday.
The Vikings were split across the state, with a majority of the team at the Jay Hammer Invitational hosted by Saint Martin's University in Lacey and a trio of throwers at the CWU Wildcat Invitational in Ellensburg.
Freshman sprinter
Karlington Anunagba turned in the performance of the day winning the 100m at the Jay Hammer Invite in a time of 10.33 (NCAA wind-legal +2.9). The speedy time is the second-fastest in both WWU and Great Northwest Athletic Conference history, trailing only the 10.22 set by former Viking All-American Alex Donigian in 2015. Anunagba, a freshman from Lagos, Nigeria, also recorded an NCAA II provisional mark and is 3rd-fastest in NCAA II this season.
Junior
Cordell Cummings set a PR in the 110m Hurdles finishing 2
nd at the Jay Hammer Invite in 14.81. The time moves him up to 5
th in WWU history, just behind his father Trey, who clocked a 14.76 in 1986.
Sophomore
Bryant Welch finished 3
rd in the 100m in 10.80, setting a personal best and entering the WWU top-10 in a tie for 7
th place.
At the CWU Invite, sophomore
Ben Malquist set a PR while finishing 2
nd in the shot put with a mark of 15.56m/51-0.75 for the 9
th-best mark in WWU outdoor history.
Junior pole vaulter
Lexi Perry recorded the top mark at the Jay Hammer Invite clearing 3.64m/11-11.25, moving up to 6
th in the WWU outdoor record book. Her mark was also just short of the NCAA II provisional standard of 3.65m/11-11.75.

Through the first month of the outdoor season, WWU has had 16 new entries in the
WWU Outdoor Track & Field record book and one school record. Senior
Maddie Taylor broke a 35-year-old school record in the high jump, clearing 1.74m/5-8.5 at the Doris Heritage Track Festival on March 16. Freshman
Karlington Anunagba has moved up to 2

Several members of the team will travel to Southern California for the
Bryan Clay Invitational (April 17-19) and the
Beach Invitational (April 19-20). WWU hill host the Ralph Vernacchia Track & Field Meet April 27 at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.
