BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University freshman sprinter
Karlington Anunagba is a repeat selection as the as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
Anunagba (AN-nu-nag-bah), a freshman from Lagos, Nigeria, ran the second-fastest time in WWU and GNAC history at 10.33 while winning the 100m at the Jay Hammer Invitational on Saturday at the SMU Track & Field Complex in Lacey, Washington.
Racing in rainy conditions, Anunagba clocked his time with a tailwind of +2.9, under the threshold of 4.0 allowed for qualifying standards set by the NCAA. The 17-year-old freshman is currently ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II this season and holds a provisional qualifying mark.
The 10.33 trails only the record 10.22 set by former Viking All-American Alex Donigian at the Mt. Sac Relays in 2015.
Anunagba also earned GNAC Athlete of the Week honors for April 1-7 after making his collegiate debut with a 10.77 while winning the 100m at the WWU Team Invitational at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.
Anunagba is the ninth selection for a WWU student-athlete as a GNAC Track & Field Athlete of the Week so far during the outdoor season.
