RICHMOND, B.C. – The Western Washington University women's golf team completed its season-opening tournament with a 2nd-place finish at the True North Classic with the 36-hole tournament played Monday and Tuesday at Richmond Country Club.
WWU recorded a 36-hole team score of 44-over-par 620, 25 strokes back of tournament host and conference rival Simon Fraser. The Vikings opened the tournament with a 16-over-par 304, but slipped by 12 strokes in Tuesday's final round. Academy of Art (+48, 624) finished 3rd, Concordia-Portland was 4th (+50, 626) and Colorado Christian (+59, 635) rounded out the top five in the 11-team field.
Junior Megan Billeter (Spokane, WA/Mt. Spokane) led the Vikings five-player contingent tying for 4thplace at 6-over-par 150. Billeter opened the season with a 1-over-par 73 on Monday and finished play with a 5-over-par 77 on Tuesday.
Senior Lacy Overstreet (Dallas, TX/Legacy Christian/Montevallo) and freshman Elise Sumner (North Tustin, CA/Foothill) tied for 10th place in the 57-player field at 11-over-par 155.
SFU's Jaya Rampuri took home individual medalist honors finishing the two-day tournament at even-par 144 (72-72).
The Vikings return to action October 7-8 with the second of four scheduled fall tournaments at the Concordia Invitational at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, Oregon.

The WWU women's golf team recently completed its 26th season as an intercollegiate sport in 2018-19 with a third-place finish at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships. The Vikings won the first five GNAC Championships beginning with the inaugural event in 2011, and have placed in the top three during all nine conference tournaments. WWU has made 10 appearances in the NCAA II West Regional Championships, last in 2016, and six trips to the NCAA II National Championships. A Viking has been named the GNAC Player of the Year in seven of the nine years it has been awarded, including 2018-19 conference co-Player of the Year Lacy Sheldon. WWU has also produced the only two players in GNAC history to earn four First Team All-GNAC awards (Jenn Paul and Kristen Hansen) and has produced nine All-Americans.
