RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Western Washington University men's golf team bounced back with the lowest final round team score on Tuesday to complete the spring-opening Coyote Classic at Canyon Crest Country Club.
The Vikings moved up to three spots on the leaderboard to pass tournament host Cal State San Bernardino for 8th place in the 12-team tournament at 55-over-par 907. WWU had the best team score at 16-over-par 300 during Tuesday's final round. The Vikings began the final round in 11th place after rounds Monday of 312 and 295.
WWU was led by a pair of top-10 finishes from junior Brody Bonfilio and senior Ethan Casto, both completing the 54-hole tournament at 9-over-par 222 to tie for 10th place.
Bonfilio carded a final-round score of 2-over-par 73, including a hole-in-one on the 203-yard 7th hole for his sixth all-time ace, and first in tournament play during his career. Bonfilio led all players in the tournament with 37 pars.
Casto notched his fifth top-10 finish in six tournaments this spring, with his second-round 3-under-par 68 tying for the low individual round of the tournament.
Sophomore Jordan Lee tied for 21st in the 72-player field at 12-over-par 225.
Stanislaus State earned top team honors finishing at 27-over-par 879, earning a six-stroke victory over Cal State Monterey Bay (+33, 885).
Simon Fraser's Scott Kerr and Justin Vrzich of Cal State San Marcos tied for individual medalist honors at 3-over-par 216, with Kerr winning the playoff on the sixth hole with a birdie on No. 9.

The WWU men's golf team has an incredible streak of advancing to the NCAA Championships in each of the 21 seasons the program has competed at the NCAA Division II level dating back to the 1998-99 season, including a 3rd-place finish at the 2013 national championship. The program has produced 17 All-Americans and has won 9 of 12 Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships since the tournament debuted in 2008, including the 2019 title. The Vikings have also featured the GNAC Championships individual medalist in 8 of 12 tournaments, including 2018 champion Ethan Casto and 2019 champion Brody Bonfilio.
