The Western Washington University softball team opens the Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule this weekend with a home-and-home doubleheader vs. Simon Fraser University.

WWU has made a schedule change, moving the home doubleheader up to Friday due to projected rain in the Bellingham area. Western will now host the Clan in the doubleheader at Viking Field with the first game scheduled to start at 11 am.

The Vikings (5-7, 0-0 GNAC) will then cross the border to play at SFU on Sunday with first pitch in the doubleheader scheduled for noon at Beedie Field on Burnaby Mountain.

Western enters GNAC play with a 5-7 record and has won five of its last eight games. SFU enters conference play with a 6-4 record and has won five of its last seven games.

ABOUT WWU SOFTBALL
The WWU softball program enters the 28
th season in program history, with the Vikings posting a winning record in 17 seasons. WWU won the 1998 NAIA National Championship to record the school's first ever team national title and has made four trips to the NCAA Division II Regional Championships, last in 2017. Over the last six seasons (since 2014), the Vikings are 162-122 (.555) and won the 2017 GNAC Tournament to advance to the NCAA II West Regional in Monterey, California. Head coach
Sheryl Gilmore completed her first season at the helm of the program in 2019, leading WWU to 27 wins, tied for the 10
th-most in program history.
