NEWBERG, Ore. – Led by strong performances from the women's throwers and triple jumpers, the Western Washington University Track & Field team recorded six program top-10 marks on Saturday during the first day of the Bruin/Pilot Indoor Meet on the campus of George Fox University.
Redshirt freshman
Raine Westfall led the way for the throwers group, placing 7
th in the weight throw with a top throw of 13.94m/45-9 to move up to 3
rd in the WWU record book.
Freshman
Katie Potts placed 3rd in the shot put with a throw of 11.16m/36-7.5 the 8
th-best mark in program history.
WWU's triple jump contingent had four top-10 finishers out of 13 competitors, with three new entries into the program top-10 record book by freshman student-athletes. Freshman
Matty Lagerwey led the way with a 6
th-place finish with a leap of 10.90m/35-9.25 to move into No. 7 in WWU history. Freshman
Ellen Ferrell placed 7
th with a jump of 10.81m/35-5.75 to rank 9
th in WWU history and freshman
Mykah Okoro finished 10
th with a mark of 10.69m/35-1 to rank 10
th in WWU history.
Freshman high jumper
Jessica Neal placed 2
nd in the high jump with a personal-best jump of 1.61m/5-3.25 to move into a tie for 8
th in WWU history.
The men's squad was led by a first-place finish in the high jump by senior
Tupre Wickliff, clearing 2.00m/6-6.75.
The two-day meet wraps up on the University of Portland campus tomorrow with the 200m, 800m, 400m, mile, 3000m and 4x400 relay events taking place at in the Chiles Center beginning at noon. Live results are available at
