TACOMA, Wash. – Seven event wins, three NCAA provisional qualifying marks and a pair of entries into the top-10 program record book highlighted the Western Washington University Track & Field outdoor season opener on Saturday at the Ed Boitano Invitational hosted by the University of Puget Sound.
Junior
Avery Lux and senior
Bryan Lee finished 1-2 in the hammer throw competition on Friday, with Lux moving up to No. 2 in WWU history with a mark of 57.60m/188-11. The throw also recorded an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark.
Lee placed 2
nd with a throw of 52.38m/171-10, the 8
th-best mark in WWU history.
Senior
Amanda Short and junior
Hannah Nienaber also placed 1-2 in the women's javelin, with both recording NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
Short had a top throw of 45.38m/149-6 and Nienaber was at 44.00m/144-4.
Senior
Chanelle Eddy was a double winner in the shot put (11.91m/39-1) and discus (41.05m/134-8) and sophomore
Jamie Sanford took top honors in the triple jump (10.70m/35-1.25). The Vikings had the top seven finishers out of 10 competitors in the triple jump competition.
Distance runners
Sophia Galvez won the 1500m in 4:48.52 and
Rebecca Lehman finished 1
st in the 3,000m (10:30.17).
The Viking women accumulated the most team points with 156 to finish ahead of Whitworth (134) and Seattle Pacific (90). The men placed 2
nd with 100 points, trailing only Whitworth (151.5).

A SEASON DEDICATED TO BILL ROE
The 2020 season will be dedicated in the honor of the late
Bill Roe, an assistant coach for the Vikings for over 30 years an ambassador in the track & field and cross country community. Roe passed away on Friday, February 28 at the age of 69.
