BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University sophomore
Aliyah Dawkins added to her impressive list of awards from 2019-20 earning Academic All-District 8 honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America's (CoSIDA).
Dawkins was one of 12 student-athletes that earned a place on the Women's Cross Country and Track and Field Team, with seven coming from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The District 8 All-Region Academic Teams are comprised of student-athletes from the GNAC, California Collegiate Athletic Association and the PacWest Conference. With the shortened collegiate spring seasons nationwide, nominees for the program were evaluated using career statistics instead of season statistics.
Dawkins, a sophomore from North Mankato, Minnesota, finished the winter quarter with a cumulative 3.98 grade point average while pursuing a degree in biochemistry. The sophomore also earned USTFCCCA Indoor All-America honors after qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the high jump. Dawkins placed fifth in both the high jump and pentathlon at the GNAC Championships. The WWU school record holder in the indoor pentathlon, Dawkins earned outdoor All-GNAC honors as a freshman with a second-place finish in the high jump at the 2019 GNAC Outdoor Championships.
Dawkins is the ninth WWU student-athlete to earn Academic All-District 8 honors during the 2019-20 season. She is now eligible for selection to the CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America Cross Country/Track & Field Team, which will be announced on Wednesday, June 24.
