For our latest installment of meeting our student-athletes, today we change things up a bit and take a deep dive into the golf bag of sophomore Elise Sumner. The Southern California native (North Tustin, CA) is coming off a banner first collegiate season in 2019-20, earning First Team All-GNAC honors.
 
Sumner answered these questions for WWUVikings.com, giving us a look at what clubs she swings, the ball she prefers to play and some other hidden gems about what gets her through a successful round on the links:
 
Q: What Irons do you play and what configuration (3-9, 4-9, etc.)
 
A: TaylorMade PSI (PW-6)

Q: What driver is currently in your bag?
 
A: TaylorMade M2
 
Q: What fairway woods do you swing?
 
A: TaylorMade M2
 
Q: And your putter?
 
A: TaylorMade Daytona Ghost
 
Q: What wedges are currently in your bag?
 
A: Titleist BV SM7
 
Q: What ball do you prefer to play?
 
A: Titleist ProV1
 
Q: Do you have any special markings on your ball?
 
A: E and 3 dots on the left side of the number
 
Q: What would you consider to be the go-to club in your bag that you trust the most?
 
A: My putter, I think I might rely on it too much on times though!
 
Q: What do you have to have in your bag at all times?
 
A: Snacks are a must!
 
Q: Are there any non-golf items in your golf bag?
 
A: Chapstick, headphones, water bottle
 
Q: Any good luck charms?
 
A: My earrings
 
Q: Is there a significance to your club-head covers?
 
A: No, I just love bears.
 
Q: Do you carry any practice mechanisms?
 
A: Putting drills to ensure I am confident on the course.
 
Q: Any bag tags that you leave on to remember a favorite course?
 
A: Spanish Bay
 
Q: What is your favorite golf course that you have played, either growing up or in college?
 
A: I am extremely grateful to have played Monterey Peninsula Country Club, everything about the course is perfect.
 
Q: What is your dream foursome for a round of golf and significance to those players you are joining…and on what course?
 
A: My sister, Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, and myself on MPCC. The significance of these players joining my sister and I is the fact that we have grown up watching Bubba and Phil, and it would be an amazing experience.
 
Q: What do you prefer…drivable Par 4 or long Par 5 with an eagle opportunity?
 
A: Long par 5, that I can hopefully eagle!
 
Q: Who is your golf role model?
 
A: My sister, Emily (who will be a senior at Santa Clara)
 
Q: What is your favorite Bellingham-area golf course?
 
A: Bellingham Country Club because whenever you play, I feel like a new challenge comes up and tests your game.
